The South Shore accounting community is smaller and more interconnected than it looks from the outside. Professionals in Hingham, Norwell, Scituate, Weymouth, and Marshfield are often competing for the same clients — small businesses, high-income households, estates and trusts, and the professional practices that cluster throughout the region. In that market, the first impression matters more than in a city where prospects have dozens of options.
I'm Chris McCarthy. My studio is at 83 E Water St in Rockland — the geographic center of the South Shore accounting market. I photograph CPAs, enrolled agents, bookkeepers, tax professionals, and accounting firm staff throughout the region. Free on-site parking. Most South Shore accountants are within 20 minutes.
Where Your Headshot Is Working For You
Firm website — The About page or staff directory. Prospective clients evaluating a firm often spend more time on the team page than any other section. Consistent, professional headshots across your entire staff communicates organizational quality. Inconsistent photos — from different years, different cameras, different lighting — undermine that impression.
AICPA and Massachusetts Society of CPAs directories — Professional association member directories carry headshots. These are where referrals and network connections are made outside your immediate market.
LinkedIn — A significant driver of professional networking for accountants, particularly for those building advisory or CFO-level relationships with business clients. LinkedIn headshot performance is measurable — profile views, connection acceptance rates, and inbound inquiries all improve with a professional photo.
Intuit, ProConnect, and referral platform profiles — Tax software ecosystems increasingly maintain professional directory listings. A strong headshot on these platforms affects how referrals from within those networks evaluate you.
Client communications — Newsletters, welcome emails, and client portals increasingly include a team photo. Clients who've worked with you for years often recognize your voice in writing faster when they associate it with a face.
Tax Season Timing
The worst time to schedule a headshot is the stretch from mid-January through April 15. You know this, but it's worth stating explicitly: an accountant in tax season does not have the mental bandwidth to show up for a photo session looking their best and actually relaxed.
The windows that work:
- Late April through June — Post-filing decompression. You have time, you're in a good headspace, and you can approach the session without the weight of three months of extensions.
- September and October — Before the pre-year-end push, when extension returns and planning season start picking up.
- Late summer (July–August) — The quietest period for many South Shore accounting practices. If you have capacity to schedule in summer, the studio is yours without a wait.
Book in advance regardless of which window you choose. Turnaround is about a week, and the images last 5–7 years with most professionals.
Solo Practice vs. Firm Headshots
Solo practitioners need one thing: a photo that builds trust before the first meeting. The South Shore professional who finds you through a Google search, a referral, or a directory listing is making an evaluation based partly on your face before they ever pick up the phone. A clean, authoritative, approachable headshot does work in that moment.
Firm headshots have a different challenge: consistency. The firm website that shows six partners photographed over eight years with different backgrounds and lighting looks like a firm that doesn't have its act together — which is exactly the wrong message for an accounting practice. A single coordinated session, everyone on the same background with the same lighting, fixes this problem permanently.
The Right Expression for Financial Professionals
The expression challenge for accountants is subtler than it sounds. Too formal reads as cold; too friendly reads as insufficiently serious. The expression you want is the one that says I know what I'm doing and you can trust me with your finances.
That expression doesn't happen automatically in a studio. Getting there takes conversation, iteration, and some direction. It's what the session is for.

Frequently Asked Questions
When is the best time for a South Shore accountant to schedule a headshot?
Avoid mid-January through mid-April when you're deep in tax season and client demands are highest. The best windows are late April through June (post-tax-season), or October through early November before the holiday crunch. Late summer is also a good window. Scheduling in advance is worthwhile — turnaround is about a week from session date.
What should an accountant wear for a headshot?
Dark or navy blazer over a simple dress shirt or blouse. A well-fitted jacket communicates professional authority immediately. Avoid loud ties, bold patterns, or anything with significant visual texture that competes with your face at small sizes. The goal is to look like the most polished version of how you actually dress to meet clients.
Do you photograph entire accounting firm teams?
Yes. Team sessions for accounting practices are a regular part of what I do. Consistent lighting, consistent backgrounds, and consistent framing across all staff is what makes a firm's website look intentionally professional rather than assembled over time. Contact me with team count for scheduling and group pricing.
How far is the studio from South Shore accounting practices?
The studio at 83 E Water St in Rockland is centrally located for South Shore accountants — about 10 minutes from Hingham and Norwell, 15 minutes from Scituate and Marshfield, 20 minutes from Duxbury, 20 minutes from Weymouth and Quincy. Free on-site parking. No parking garage hassle.
