The Experience
A Private Session Designed Around Your Comfort
A boudoir session is one of the most personal things you can do for yourself. The result — images that show you at your most confident and beautiful — is something clients describe as genuinely life-changing. The process of getting there is just as important as the photos themselves.
Every session is conducted in a fully private studio with no other clients on-site. We begin with a consultation to understand your goals, your comfort level, and what you want the images to feel like. The session pace is set by you — we never rush, never push, and never ask you to do anything that doesn't feel right. Most clients arrive nervous and leave wishing they'd booked the longer session.
I work with clients from across the South Shore and Boston — Hingham, Scituate, Norwell, Duxbury, Rockland, Cohasset, Marshfield, Hanover, Plymouth, Quincy, Weymouth, and beyond. The studio is private, welcoming, and specifically designed to make you feel at ease from the moment you walk in.

Why It Matters
Why Women in Boston & the South Shore Book Boudoir Photography
Boudoir photography has grown dramatically in Boston and the South Shore over the past decade — not because the industry pushed it, but because clients kept telling other people about the experience. The pattern is consistent: someone books a session for an occasion (a milestone birthday, an anniversary gift, a post-pregnancy celebration of their body) and walks out with something unexpected — a new relationship with how they see themselves.
A well-executed boudoir session is less about the photographs and more about what the process requires of you: showing up, trusting someone with your image, and allowing yourself to be seen as genuinely beautiful. Most clients describe the two or three hours in the studio as the first time in years they felt fully present in their own body. The images are a record of that — which is why the reaction when clients see their gallery for the first time almost always involves tears.
The most common thing clients tell us before a session: “I'm not sure I'm the right kind of person for this.” The most common thing they tell us after: “I wish I'd done this years ago.” We have photographed women from their early twenties through their seventies, across every body type, background, and comfort level with being photographed. Experience in front of a camera is never required — in fact, clients who have never been professionally photographed often produce the most authentic images because they haven't developed habits that work against them.
If you're wondering what to expect from a first session, our Massachusetts boudoir guide covers the full process — from consultation through gallery delivery. For help with what to bring, our outfit guide for boudoir sessions is a practical starting point.
Practically, boudoir photography at Photography Shark is conducted in a fully private studio on the South Shore. Sessions are one-on-one — there are no assistants, no second shooters, and no other clients in the building. Every image is professionally retouched and delivered in a password-protected gallery accessible only by you. Images are never used in portfolios, social media, or marketing without your explicit written consent. Privacy is the default, not an upgrade.
We serve clients from Boston, Quincy, Weymouth, Hingham, Scituate, Cohasset, Norwell, Marshfield, Duxbury, Plymouth, and all communities across the South Shore. If you're considering a boudoir session and aren't sure where to start, the contact form is a low-pressure first step — most questions are answered within a few hours and there's no obligation to book.
Research published by the American Psychological Association consistently links positive body image to improved overall well-being and self-confidence — which aligns closely with what clients describe after their sessions. A boudoir experience, done well, is more than photography.
Preparation
How to Prepare for Your Boston Boudoir Session
The single most impactful preparation you can do is arrange hair and makeup before your session. It doesn't need to be elaborate — even a modest blowout and a clean makeup look will elevate the final images significantly compared to arriving without any. Professionally retouched images taken after professional hair and makeup look noticeably different than retouched images taken without. If you'd like referrals to local stylists in the South Shore area, ask when you book.
Bring three to five outfit options. You won't necessarily shoot all of them, but having choices gives you more control over the tone of the session — some clients want soft and romantic, others want bold and editorial, many want both. Lingerie is the most common choice but it is absolutely not required. An oversized button-up shirt, a silk slip, athletic wear, a lace robe, even a meaningful piece of clothing can all work beautifully. Wear what makes you feel most like yourself.
Beyond that: eat something before you arrive, avoid tanning beds or spray tans in the 48 hours before your session (they photograph unpredictably), and plan to arrive relaxed rather than rushed. The first few minutes of any boudoir session are a warmup — we'll walk the studio together, talk through what you want, and ease into it. Nobody walks in camera-ready. You don't have to either.

FAQ
Boudoir Photography Questions
I have never done a boudoir session before. What should I expect?
Most clients have never done a boudoir session before — that is completely normal. We start every session with a relaxed consultation where we go over your goals, discuss what you are comfortable with, and walk through the studio. There is no rushing, no pressure to move faster than you want to, and we check in throughout the session. Most clients say they felt awkward for the first five minutes and empowered for the rest. The goal is photos that make you feel genuinely good about yourself — not photos that feel forced or uncomfortable.
Is boudoir photography only for certain body types?
Absolutely not. We have photographed women of every age, size, shape, and background. Our lighting, posing, and direction are designed to be flattering for every body — not just a narrow standard. The most important factor is how you feel in front of the camera, and we work hard to create an environment where that feeling is genuine confidence, not performance.
What should I wear for a boudoir session?
Bring whatever makes you feel most like yourself — lingerie, an oversized shirt, a silk robe, athletic wear, a favorite dress. Most clients bring 3–5 outfit options. We will help you decide what works with the lighting and backdrop once you arrive. If you are unsure, we are happy to give guidance before your session during the planning consultation. Hair and makeup done before the session makes a significant difference in how the final images look.
Are the photos private? Who sees them?
Your images are entirely private. We never share, publish, or use boudoir session images without your explicit written consent. Your gallery is password-protected and only accessible to you. If you would like to share images or allow us to use them for portfolio purposes, that is entirely your decision — we will ask separately and only use images you specifically approve.
