Kids & Teen Headshots in Boston
A good kids headshot looks exactly like your child on a good day: bright eyes, a real expression, and nothing a casting director will notice is missing when they walk in. Sessions are paced for young subjects, with breaks, games and a parent in the room, and photographed by Chris McCarthy in Rockland, MA — 35 minutes south of Boston.

Who It's For
What Kids Headshots Are Used For
Acting and talent agency submissions. Boston and New York agencies want a current, natural headshot for every child on their books, and casting platforms like Actors Access and Backstage ask for one before anything else. The parent's guide to child actor headshots covers what agencies look for at each age.
Kids and teen modeling. Agencies scouting young models want clean, simple images that show the face and natural look. Teens building toward agency work should also read the teen modeling guide for Boston.
Theater, dance and pageant programs. Youth theater programs, summer intensives and competition teams ask for a headshot with the application. Dancers can see dance and audition headshots, and pageant contestants pageant headshots, for the formats those programs expect.

How It Works
A Session Built Around Your Child
Ages 4–10: short and playful. Casting directors want genuine joy and personality at this age, and that comes from a child who is having fun, not one who has been told to smile. We warm up with games and silly questions, take breaks whenever they're needed, and stop before energy runs out.
Ages 11–13: a little more intention. Tweens can take direction and hold a more considered expression, but still do best with a shorter session. This is the age when looking current matters most, because faces change fast.
Ages 14–17: close to an adult actor session. Teens get directed for type and range, and many book both looks in one 60-minute session so they leave with a commercial and a theatrical option.
What to bring. Two or three simple, solid-colored tops that fit well, the child's favorite snack, and a plan to arrive rested. Hair should look the way it does on a normal day; agencies want to recognize the child who walks in.
Teen and young-actor sessions are directed much like an adult actor headshot.
FAQ
Kids Headshot Questions
How much do kids headshots cost?
A kids headshot session is $395: 30 minutes in the Rockland studio, one look, and 10 retouched images delivered in 3–5 business days. Teens who need a commercial and a theatrical look can do both looks in one 60-minute session for $495. Extra retouched images are $25 each, and rush delivery in 24–48 hours is +$100.
What ages do you photograph?
Children and teens from about age 4 to 17. Younger children get a shorter, playful session built around keeping their energy up; teens are directed much like adult actors, with more deliberate expressions and type awareness.
Can parents stay in the studio during the session?
Yes. For younger children a parent in the room is usually essential, and you are welcome to stay for the whole session. Many teens prefer a little space while shooting, so we decide that together on the day.
How much retouching do kids headshots get?
Very little, on purpose. Agencies and casting directors need to see what the child actually looks like today, so retouching is limited to temporary things like a scrape, a stray hair or a bit of shine. Freckles, gaps between teeth and natural features stay. Heavily smoothed child headshots get rejected.
How often should a child update their headshots?
Every 6 to 12 months for younger children, and whenever a child loses or gains front teeth, gets a big haircut, or changes noticeably. Teens can usually go a year. A headshot that no longer looks like the child is the most common reason agencies ask for new photos.
Can siblings be photographed at the same visit?
Yes. Siblings book back-to-back sessions, each at the standard $395, so every child gets their own focused time and their own 10 images. Mention it when you get in touch and we will hold consecutive slots.
What if my child has a bad day?
It happens, and it is covered by the satisfaction guarantee: if you are not happy with the photos for any reason, I will reshoot once at no charge. Booking a time of day when your child is usually rested and fed helps more than anything else.
