Each system has slightly different submission format requirements — Miss USA tends toward more glamour-style headshots with stronger makeup, Miss America (MAO) leans more conservative and approachable, and scholarship pageants often have specific composition requirements for their packet. The session captures multiple variations so you have format flexibility for whichever specific system or systems you're competing in.

For Massachusetts contestants specifically, the studio location works well for Miss Massachusetts USA and Miss Massachusetts (MAO) state-level competitions. Many MA state titleholders have shot competition headshots locally rather than traveling to NYC or LA — the cost difference is significant and the production quality is comparable.

Pageant submission timelines have specific windows that determine when headshots need to be ready. Working backward from competition dates is the reliable way to plan a session:

Major national pageants (Miss USA, Miss America, MAO). Submission packets typically due 6–10 weeks before competition. Headshots are part of that packet. Book your session 10–14 weeks before competition to allow time for the shoot, retouching, format conversion to system specs, and a small buffer for reshoots if needed. Most contestants also want time to refine wardrobe and platform statements before the submission deadline, which the early timeline supports.

Regional and state-level pageants. Submission packets usually due 4–6 weeks before. Book 6–8 weeks before competition. This window is tighter than the major-national timeline but still allows for retouching and reshoots if needed.

Local and scholarship pageants. Often due 2–4 weeks before. Book 4–6 weeks before competition.

Mid-reign and titleholder appearances. Crowned titleholders typically need updated headshots within 30 days of crowning for sponsor outreach, official appearances, and platform marketing. Book within the first two weeks of your reign to have polished imagery ready for the year ahead.

Pre-session consultation. 15-minute call to discuss the pageant system, format requirements, wardrobe options, and any specific platform/branding considerations. We confirm timing and any add-ons.

Session day. Arrive with hair and makeup done (or arrange professional services in advance). Bring 2-3 wardrobe options. Session runs 45-60 minutes covering multiple wardrobes and lighting setups. Same-day preview of selected frames.

Delivery.5-7 business days for the full retouched gallery. Files delivered in multiple formats so you can submit to any pageant system's specifications. Rush delivery available for tight competition timelines.
