The market is smaller, the categories cluster differently, and the visual register most agencies want for men leans toward direct, technical-confidence rather than soft-edge editorial work. This session is built around those differences. Pre-session planning call (10 min, by phone or email). Before you arrive we map your target categories — commercial first, plus any specialty buckets you want to cover. We confirm wardrobe selections and the look order based on physical setup time (e.g., athletic looks shoot together to avoid changing in and out of compression gear).

Arrival and wardrobe review (10 min). At the Rockland studio we go through the wardrobe you brought, identify the strongest options per look, and lock the shoot order. Most sessions start with a clean commercial headshot/torso shot — the lead image for any portfolio — before moving to specialty categories.

Lighting calibration (5 min). Male modeling lighting differs by category. Commercial uses broader, even softbox light. Fitness uses more directional rim/edge light to define physique. Editorial uses harder light for shadow shape. Lighting gets recalibrated between category shifts — not just wardrobe.

Active shooting and direction (45–60 min for a standard session). Direction is hands-on throughout. Male portfolio posing is technical — head position, jaw tension, eye direction, shoulder rotation, hand placement — and benefits from active coaching. Most male models, including experienced ones, get markedly better frames with direction than without.

Wardrobe changes and resets (10–15 min total across the session). Between looks we change wardrobe, reset hair, and recalibrate lighting if the new category demands it. Standard sessions cover 2–3 distinct looks; Extended sessions cover 4–5.

Image review and delivery (3–5 business days, no on-site selection). Within 3–5 business days you receive a private online gallery with the full retouched selection. Standard delivers 10 images; Extended delivers 20. Comp card layouts (if requested) arrive in the same delivery.

Aspiring male models building a first portfolio. First-portfolio sessions are typically the Extended format ($795) to give the agency a complete picture across commercial through specialty categories.

Signed models refreshing or updating their book. A meaningful look change (new haircut, weight or fitness change, beard added or removed) is reason to refresh. Standard sessions ($395) cover most refresh scenarios where 2–3 new looks plug into the existing book.
